Dear blogreaders
We eventually managed to pull ourselves away from the beach at Arambol and ended up back in Panaji for a couple of days, after which we caught an overnight bus to Mumbai.
From Mumbai we flew to Chandigarh in the North of India (above Delhi).
The one thing that we both wanted to see in Chandigarh (there isn't a whole lot else really) was the fantasy garden by Nek Chand. He built the garden in the jungle and made people, animals etc from thrown away waste, i.e. wall tiles, bathroom ceramics and so on. The garden was kept hidden for many years until the government finally came across it and were going to destroy it but realised that it could be a good tourist pull. Apparently it is the 2nd most visited place in India after the Taj Mahal but I am not sure whether that is true or not ;-)
We spent a couple of days in Chandigarh and did some shopping in the 'malls' before catching the bus to Shimla (a hill station in Himachal Pradesh). The weather here is very temperate just like in Holland or the UK and during the days of the British Raj was the centre of administration for almost a fifth of the world. It is a lovely place and rains frequently which makes quite a change from the south where it rains frequently but is bloody hot at the same time. Here its jumpers and hats and umbrellas. We are staying in a lovely hotel which has ESPN (the sports channel) specially so we can watch the Holland v Italy match tonight (9th June) which although being broadcast at 20.45 actually means we get it at 00.15 tomorrow - how weird is that.
We have a couple of bottles of beer in the fridge and will be sitting down to watch in a couple of hours time - come on Holland! La La La La La
We will be moving on the day after tomorrow to Mandi which will be a stopover before finishing up in Dharamsala and if we are lucky we will get to see the Dalai Lama but we will let you know all about that when it happens. Until then - Happy Birthday Mum for yesterday (I did call but your phone wasn't on) - x x x x x x
