Dear blogreadersWe caught our flight from Fort Cochin to Goa successfully a few days ago and finally made our way to Panajim which is the capital of Goa. Its pretty hot here with very high humidity so we haven't had much energy to do a lot but we did visit a spice plantation and had a little wander around Panajim itself. The other night we went to a restaurant that was actually in the Lonely Planet guide only to find we were the only tourists there (its off season at the moment). So we sat down outside and ordered our dinner from a very nice lady, so we are sitting there enjoying a nice cold beer when all of a sudden all hell breaks loose, there is shouting and screaming and chairs being flung and cutlery crashing to the floor. The lady then comes out with our dinner and goes back inside and the whole ruckus starts again. About 10 minutes later a man comes out shouting 'bloody b*stard b*tch' and starts calling the police on his phone. By this time we have finished our food (its amazing how quickly you can eat when necessary). The lady comes out again and asks if we would like anything else (he bloke is still shouting at her) we decide wisely just to ask for the bill (which surprises her) and after we have paid we make a very swift exit.We then made our way by bus to Arambol which is one of the northern most beaches in Goa. The beaches are long and white with hardly any people around and only a couple of bar/restaurants open, all in all very relaxing. We have met some really nice people here and spent most of the last 3 days talking about anything and everything and drinking pots of tea. We have been swimming a few times in the sea but mostly just sitting around and chewing the fat. Most enjoyable. However the monsoons are coming and the fisherman have just moved all their boats up the beach as there is a possibility of a cyclone hitting here tonight. Needless to say we are out of here. It is a very difficuly place to leave and we can see why people came in the sixties and never left, although they say it is changing and its pretty hectic in season. So this afternoon we are heading back to Panajim and from there we will book a flight hopefully to Amritsar or Chandigarh in the North and for the next 3 weeks we will be touring around up there. We want to see the gardens in Chandigarh, the golden temple in Amritsar, the changing of the guard in Attari and the Dalai Lama's place in Dharamsala. Fingers crossed we can do the whole lot before we fly back from Delhi on the 29th on June. The time is really flying by now but there are some things that we are looking forward to when we get back 1) drinking water from a tap 2) having electricity 24 hours a day 3) no rubbish in the streets 4) not being stared at 5) seeing family and friends again 6) the climate. Things we will miss 1) the amazing sights and histotry 2) the great food 3) the other interesting people you meet when travelling 4) IPL (The Indian cricket premier league) 5) cheap beer and cigarettes 6) the climate (yeah I know!).We will probably update the blog when we reach the North in a few days, so until then dear readers ........... x x x x x
