Kate,Jo and Bronagh Get Around
Hello again
Hope everybody likes the photos! we spent hours getting them on here so be impressed. So we're now in Hervey Bay, but we've got so much to tell you from the past few days.
We all loved Magnetic Island, we walked up a huge mountain range to the Island Forts were the view was beautiful. Ok, not really a mountain range but it wasn't easy in flip flops and there was a big sign telling us to watch out for "Death Adders", so there was a bit of panic when a snake slithered over Jos foot. Luckily it was no match for Jos quick thinking combat tactics. Kick, Scream and run!!! Also Bronagh managed to misplace the keys to the padlocks that lock her and Jo's rucksacks. But its OK, a man with a big axe was on hand to sort that one out.
We had our own Barbie in the Garden, Jo and Kate spent a good ten minutes trying to work out how to light it. Then they realised you need a "Lighting Device", and with the help of a good Belfast man we managed to get it going. When we said we were from Bangor, the man told us how he'd been in New Zealand and met a guy from Bangor called Ricky. As in Ricky of the Denny's. How mental, such a small world! He even had a bit written in his diary about him.
We also climbed rocks in the evening and watched the sunset from the top. It was amazing, the sky was all different colours. The way home wasn't quite so good, as we forgot that there would be no sun after the sunset and got completely lost. There were nearly tears and search and rescue were nearly called in. But good Old Kate managed to Navigate us to the path, (oh wait a second, we should have gone right), which was a good 30second walk away. Phew.
Next stop was Airlie Beach. After a 6hour journey, we arrived in the town, driving past all these lovely hostels with bands playing. We were all excited. But apparently its a good idea to book these things ahead. We ended up in a dodgy hostel were the room, no joke, smelt like urine. It was awful. After a lot of hassle and a great right hander from The Mighty Kate, we finally persuaded the lovely people at Koala's to let us switch rooms. So it was all OK. For a good five minutes we were happy. We got all geared up for a big night out. Walked the mile long beachfront to the nice bars, were walking in when, SURPRISE! Any ID Love?? They swooped in from behind and we were defenceless against them. Brokenhearted, we made our way to an Ice-cream parlour next door, and were happy for a good ten minutes this time. Then we went back to the hostel and made the decision to go to bed early and start the next day afresh. Nope. Little did we know that we were sharing a room with a Crazy Woman from Sweden who came in at 3am, yelled at us for turning her bag upside down and accused us of eating her crunchies "DIDZ YOU ENJOY ZEM??" (cos thats exactly what we do when we go into a room, turn all the bags upside down and eat all the crunchies. Oh and apparently steal her bikini bottoms.)
And by the way, they also stole our room keys, so we nearly didn't get our Deposit back. But thanks to Jo's smooth talking, ("are you hannah and paula?" "..............yes"), away we went. One night in Airlie Beach was enough.
So here we are in Hervey Bay, it took us 13hrs and one emergency stop so the bus driver could tell Bronagh off. Apparently its against the law to sleep in the Big Cubby Hole at the back of the bus. Although Bronagh is none too impressed by this. It was very comfy, although slightly bumpy.
But our new Hostel is lovely, with Big Gardens and 2 pools. We're off to Fraser Island tomorrow, the biggest sand island in the world. We'll be camping and 4 wheel driving in a group of 10, so it should be fun. Though every time we tell people we're going they go "oooooo, watch out for the dingoes". We'll let you know if we survive.
Speak soon xo
