Kate,Jo and Bronagh Get Around
Well we are not impressed.
Where are all our messages?!? Huh. OK, we know we haven't been on in a while but now we have tons to talk about. We went to Fraser Island on Monday, for 3 days. It was so brilliant. We spent the days going over sand dunes and beaches in a 4WD, great fun, if not a wee bit sore. The seats fully lifted off the floor. How safe. But we went to loads of different lakes, with pure white sand and crystal clear water. So beautiful. The weather was lovely and we had such a laugh. At night, we had BBQs, with, to be fair, not the tastiest food. (Bronagh did the shopping, last day, malteser sandwiches). We had a bit of a party and later on when the lights at the camp went out, headed down to the beach. It was lovely, we had a good group of people with us. Before we left for the island, we had a big safety talk, about how to handle dingoes. They're just wild dogs, but apparently are very dangerous. So you're supposed to just cross your arms and walk slowly backwards. Dunno what crossing your arms is supposed to do. If they do attack, you have to "Defend yourself aggressively". So we were ever so slightly worried about them, and while we were on the beach that night, dingoes did come. but for some reason, none of us were scared. We put the Strong into Strongbow. We all just sat there, and watched. They stopped in front of us, had a bit of a look, and dandered off. We were camping in tents, with Germans. There were six of us in one tent so it was a bit of a squeeze. Well a lot of a squeeze. Bronagh was woken up in the middle of the night being shoved halfway across the tent by an irate German who "needz more zpace". Not amused. The next night, Jo, who spent the whole day laughing about Bronagh being shoved awoke to a similar fate. Not so funny anymore. Also, there was a killer spider hibernating in the girls toilets. Which was lovely. Especially when it started to move on the last night.
After Fraser Island, we spent another night in Hervey Bay, and went to the bar with our group. A good night was had by all, especially some bloke called Will who made a complete idiot of himself on a table during the YMCA. Shortly after, the same guy was thrown out. Naked.
Next stop was Brisbane. We got there on Thursday and had a bit of a relax. It was huge, with big skyscrapers everywhere. It was really pretty, all lit up at night. And on Friday, we did Ireland proud. We went to Dreamworld, the biggest Theme Park in Australia. It was brilliant. The Tower of Terror was exactly that. Its in the Guiness Book of Records for being The Tallest, Fastest, Vertical Drop. Or some such thing. It just shot you along so fast and the went flying up a tower, so you came back down backwards. Brilliant! There was also a Giant Drop. Which was horrible. But, we also got to feed Kangaroos and hold Koala Bears in a wildlife sanctuary there. It was amazing, best St. Paddy's day ever! And then, there was the night. The whole hostel got a bus to Dooley's Irish Bar, which was bunged. We ended up in Irish Murphy's. Had such a night. There was a live band and everyone was wearing green. Bronagh had the tricolor out and Jo ended up with a free Irish Murphy's T-shirt. Bronagh and Jo also ended up with big Guiness Tatoos on their arms. Don't panic mums, they're not real, though they may as well have been cos they didn't come off so we were traipsing about with them the next day too. Loads of people were in the same boat though, the next day it was like, "Hey, Irish Murphy's!!". One girl told us she'd shaved hers off for going to work!
Kate left the day after St. Paddys. And since then we've stayed locked in this same room, crying. No we haven't, but we do miss her a wee bit. We were supposed to leave her to the airport but we all slept in so it was a bit of a rush. So we'll be meeting her and Ricky in a couple of weeks in New Zealand. The first thing we did after Kate left was... get locked out of the hostel room. But since then, things have gone quite well. We've been very productive. We did grocery shopping and sorted out where we're going to over the next few days. We even had a trip to the cinema and got our hostel room upgraded for free. Hurrah! So the next half of the trip looks amazing. Tomorrow we're going surfing, and then Bronagh is going for a well deserved massage. (its very stressful, this travelling malarky) Then on Tuesday we're going to Nimbin to see the hippies that live there. We might even fit in a bit of sunbathing. We're leaving on Tuesday night for Sydney.
So its all going well, and we're still alive. We want more messages please! And hopefully we'll have some photos up. Missing everyone loads, talk to you all soon
