So, we reached the final stage of our NZ whistle-stop tour - a stay along the shores of the beautiful Lake Tekapo, whose water is such a gorgeous shade of blue, and a trip to Mount Cook. I just can't find the words to adequately describe some of the views we've had on this journey and here is definitely up there amongst the best. We've tried out all forms of transport on this trip - from sea kayak and racing yacht through to train and helicopter - so when we were offered the opportunity to go up in a small fixed-wing plane to traverse the top of Mount Cook and explore the Tasman glacier, I just couldn't resist. For once, being a little on the short side worked to my advantage as this plane was pretty tiny. Stu struggled to fit in! I have to admit there were a few bouncy moments when I wondered what on earth we were doing but the views were spectacular and, between us, we should hopefully have taken some fantastic photographs. Once again, I have that feeling that we are so incredibly lucky. If I didn't know the reason why I worked so hard before I came out here, I think I do now ...
Final drinks and dinner with some of the lovely people we've met along the way - many of whom are in the later stages of their lives and are not in the best of health. But they still have a desire to travel and see more of the world. Their attitude and their courage is quite an inspiration - not to mention the fact that many of them have been together for 50+ years. Real soulmates. Just what I think we are all hoping to find in our lives ...
