Aloha! On Jan 31 we flew halfway across the Pacific Ocean to Honolulu on the Island of O'ahu in Hawaii. We arrived the day before we left (Jan 30) and are now 10 hours behind GMT, rather than 13 hours ahead. The climate here is lovely, nice and warm, not too hot. We stayed in the famous Honolulu suburb of Waikiki, where the beach runs the length of this part of the island. To be honest, its a bit like an upmarket Fuengirola, with high-rise hotels and packed bars and beaches. Quite early on, we decided to kick back and chill for a beach holiday: Lazy days on the beach, cocktails, surfing, swimming - nice. Charmaine joined us and the children all had a great time. We hired a car and took a drive right around the island: The north shore is where the big wave surfing is, and big wave is no exaggeration: Huge!! We had a great shrimp lunch at Ted's Bakery then went on to Haleiwa to sample the famous 'Matsumoto's shave ice' - fluorescent coloured fruit syrups poured over shaved ice. Foul stuff! We also took a day trip up to Pearl Harbour, site of the bombing by the Japanese in 1941 which brought the U.S. into WWII. Max went on to a submarine at the museum which he thought was the brilliant! On our last day we walked up to the Diamond Head Crater - the remnants of a volcano which erupted 150,000 years ago. We then went on to Floss & Max's favourite restaurant, 'Dave and Buster's ', which has a whole floor of gaming machines for children's (and childish adults') entertainment.
Me and dad went surfing a really nice guy gave me a body board and I went skimming
on a body board but I still did go surfing dad went on a longboard dad only went on
1 wave because it wasn't very good surf. Max.
