It's my last full night in Singapore, as this time tomorrow I'll be in the air on my way to sunny Melbourne. I'm excited to arrive 'Down Under'. Saying that, I have had a blast here. Over the past two days especially I've made some awesome travel buddies from all corners of the globe. Facebook addresses have already been exchanged, and I like to think we'll cross paths again at some stage. Right now though I'm ready for a change of scenery. Bring on the tarantulas.
Yesterday morning, after waking up in a much more positive frame of mind, I decided to get the underground to Orchard Road. Orchard Road is the main shopping street in Singapore. Shopping mall after shopping mall after shopping mall. It's not really my scene. Shopping for me is always an awkward experience. I'm definitely someone that needs to be dressed. Effectively I'm still a toddler.
When I arrived back, sweaty and shopping bag-less, a group of people from the hostel were just heading out and asked me to join. They said they were going to Clarke Quay for some drinks, so off I went. It was great. We played drinking games on the river front, and I was tricked into trying 'Durian'. It's known as the 'smelly fruit', and it tastes like arse! My reaction was much to the amusement of the people around me. We then got the last train back to our hostel and called it a night.
Today was another early start. I'd checked the forecast, and a pretty colossal storm was due to hit at around 4pm, so I made my way to Botanical Gardens straight after breakfast. It was such a sharp contrast from the hustle and bustle of the city. The traffic and the crowds were replaced with lakes and themed gardens. I enjoyed it. God I sound so old. Maybe working solely with octogenerians for the past year has changed me.
The gang I went out with last night informed me that they were heading to Little India for some food, so off we headed. There was some sort of festival on, so the atmosphere was buzzing. I met loads of new people too, all great company. There is a photo of us all in the picture gallery. I must add though, there was a green light shining on me so I look a bit demented (just in case you were thinking I'd taken a funny turn after eating the curry).
So, with a trip to the Botanical Gardens, and a night out to Little India under my belt, today has been a cracker. And with that perfect mix of crime and technology I was able to stream Liverpool beating Tottenham 3-2 as well. I can go to sleep a happy man.
