Shirley & I had an amazing ride day! Oh my gosh! So many miles of Twisted roads! I never expected California to have twisties & mountainous roads!
We finally found The Hell Hole Dam today! It is in California, not near Lake Tahoe, Nevada, as the instructions lead us to believe! We had stopped at two tour information places & no one had heard of the dam! After they googled it, new information was found and off we went again. We decided to hop on the Interstate to make up some time. As we got closer to Sacramento I was beginning to worry that we were going to end up in the dam city! I was signaling to Shirley to turn off at that last few exits nut she ignored me and kept on going! Good thing too! Once in Auburn, I lucked out finding Hwy 49 out of Auburn, CA & from there we found Georgetown, where we stayed at the American River Inn-Hotel/ turned into a wonderful Bed & Breakfast. The building was built in 1853 but fire damage caused a rebuild in 1899. Anyway we really enjoyed the night and had great laughs with the other guests! First thing this morning we went in hunt of the dam, after riding 1 1/2 hrs over very ruff, narrow, twisted, switch back, corkscrew roads we found the damn dam! No where near as exciting as the ride to the dam! But it was pretty- BUT I didn't even get wet.
