This is the first entry into this as the site was set up back in France at Carl and Kates uncle and aunties house and now we are in Neuchatel in Switzerland with a good internet connection so we have time to start writing!!
The trip started I guess from Swindon in the UK where I collected Joey from her dad Marks house, I arrived there late on the weds evening and had time for a quick sleep before the alarm ruined our sleep at 04.30am. Having loaded much more of Joeys bags into the car than I originally anticipated we finally hit the road at 05.15am and made our way down to Portsmouth.
Having got to the docks just after 7am it wasnt long before we were lined up and then got picked out by security to check over our vehicle, I was asked to open the back up while a guy with a mirror checked for bombs and was questioned about having any weapons on board, not wanting to hinder our progress I admitted to having a multi-tool but must have forgotten to mention the knifes and axe that I had on board and were promptly let go to board the ship.
We were on the ferry for a total of 6 hours in the end, theres not much to say really, if you have been on one you know what its like, we could have done without Barbara the entertainment for the entire boat deciding to start entertaining kids in the area we had decided to sleep in. But frites and a big raspberry pie made up for it. The journey described by Joey was 'horrific'. I cant recall ever seeing one white top on a wave so im unsure how she concluded this.
Arriving in Caen we got straight off the boat and fired up the brand new sat nav. After driving into the middle of Caen and the sat nav taking us into a hospital we escaped the town and started to make our way south, just south. We had no destination at this point and it was a good job as we didnt have a clue where we were for the first 3 hours. After deciding on a good place to head for to camp the first night we got no where near it and agreed to settle in Domfront for the night about 2 hours north of where we wanted to be.
After we had set up camp we got to the local Carrefour and brought a baguette, roast chicken and some coleslaw, it was a proper feast before we crashed out in the tent for our first night under canvas.
