Travel from Moree to Tenterfield on our trip back to Brisbane.
Heavy rain from storm the night before, no damage but a lot surface water around. Leaving Moree we diverted from the normal route along the Newell Hwy to a route via Tenterfield just to check the region along the Qld/NSW border. The route adds about 150k to overall trip.
We followed the Gwyder Hwy east from Moree to Warialda and then on to Inverell. We had a morning coffee with scones in Warialda. Lovely small town. Sue purchased some further Christmas gifts at a small gift shop. Also had a chat with some of the old men who meet every morning at a bus shelter in the Main Street after having purchased the daily paper. It is known as the seat of knowledge by the locals. Fuelled up at the local service station.
Drove thru Inverell. Population 12000, lovely town with beautiful gardens along the Warialda creek that flows thru the town.
Turned off the Gwyder Hwy to travel north on a secondary rode towards the Bruxner Way and Dumaresq river that forms the Qld/NSW border. Stopped at Ashford, population 350, and had lunch in the van at the local park.
Reached the Bruxner Way east of Bonshaw and turned east towards Tenterfield some 100k away. The Bruxner way follows along the Dumaresq river for most of the way to Tenterfield. Very scenic farming and bushland with high points providing landscape views of the northern tablelands and ranges. Recent rains meant for a fairly green scape.
Arrived in Tenterfield at around 3.00pm and booked into the Showgrounds camp site for the night. Very nice spot with green lawns backing on to a little creek.
