Teotihuacan is a journey back in time to ancient pyramids built over 2000 years ago by pre Aztec civilization. Not much is known about this unearthed discovery and the people but I can tell you one thing...they sure could build pyramids.
We took a bus an hour outside of Mexico City and made our way thru the many sellers of cheap souvenirs. But after running the gauntlet, behold, the sight of the Pyramid Of the Sun towering high above us. I was stunned by how massive it was and how small I felt. We made the pilgrimage like the many others to climb each gruelling step to the top. The climb was heart attack inducing but the view was absolutely breathtaking. When we set foot on the final platform at the top and conquered, we felt pretty amazing. A monarch butterfly greeted me and it was a delightful sign....I can conquer any mountain if I put my heart and mind into it.
From the top you can see for miles, and about a kilometre away was a smaller but still stunning Pyramid of the moon. There were ruins all around us, some not yet discovered. We walked the length of this civilized city and found shade from the heat in a series of hidden quiet rooms with hieroglyphics. Wild animals, dotted rock walls, and incredibly detailed artwork that hints of a very different time.
On this adventure, we are reminded how the world is ours for this time, but what will we leave for the generations to come? And what can we learn from the societies before us? Tomorrow we'll explore the Anthropology museum to see what they have to say about all this!
