Bangkok
Started out in Bangkok for a few days to get myself sorted before starting the next tour (Thailand Hike, Bike and Kayak). Was with a girl from my last tour until I had to meet my next group, where I checked into my starting hotel and bumped into Chloe from my tour in China!!!
Spent some time on my own going to some really posh shopping malls and began to feel ok in Bangkok, as it was my second time, I am getting used to it.
Met my new tour group and next day went on a bike ride round the outside of the city, through narrow streets and inbetween peoples houses/huts. Ate some gorgeous grilled banana's and sticky rice with mango, was so good!
Chiang Mai / Chiang Dao
Got an overnight train to Chiang Mai, where we then repacked a bag to take with us for a 3 day trek in the jungle. The trekking was great but really hard work, as most of the group were walking at a pretty fast pace and there was a lot of really steep hills. I managed to put my hand on something and got tonnes of tiny spikes in my hand, looked like the fur on kiwi fruit, and had to wait til the evening to pull them all out with tweezers. The views were amazing though and felt like we were in the middle of no-where.
We stopped in a hill tribe bamboo hut which was really cool. We all slept on the floor of the hut and they cooked us a meal in there and we sat round candles playing cards. I also ate a bamboo worm. At night the stars were amazing, so clear, it was beautiful, so we lay outside for a bit looking up at them.
Second day was up and down hills, crossing over streams and we stopped at a waterfall for lunch, where we went in. After we'd had lunch and got dry and put shoes on, we realised we had to cross the river. Everyone followed, walking over rocks to get to the other side. I however, slipped on one and landed on my knees, in the river on another rock. It really hurt, but I did find it funny. Some of the paths across the hills were so narrow and at the one side a massive steep drop, and I managed to fall and slide down one a bit, not long after.
We visited a hill tribe bording school and then got to the most amazing tree house where were staying for the second night. Some of the group got a thai massage and we ate dinner and sat round a fire eating sticky rice cooked on the fire in bamboo.
Next day we did more trekking and visited the Elephant Mea Ping Village, where we rode the elephants, which was really fun. We went back to the guesthouse in Chiang Mai and went out for dinner and some of us went out for drinks after.
Next day, had a wonder round Chiang Mai and then we got the overnight train to Ayutthaya.
Ayutthaya
Didn't spend long here, just did a bike ride for half a day and went round a few different temples. Then got a bus to Kanchanaburi
Kanchanaburi
We stopped on a big lake for the night, which was part of the river kwai, and stayed in a raft house which got pulled out into the middle of the lake. It was a couple of platforms with little rooms upstairs and down and was so nice!
We watched the sunset, which looked amazing, and swam in the lake. I really liked it here, it was loads better than I was expecting and had a great time.
Next day we left on a bus to the Erawan waterfalls, where they have 7 different levels and was pretty hard walking all the way to the top in the heat, but was so worth it! We swam in a few of them and slid down the waterfalls and they had the fish in the water which nip at you and nibble at your skin, which was interesting! Took a bit of getting used to.
We then travelled into Kanchanaburi City, which was really nice, and went on a bike ride round the countryside. We stopped at the Death Railway Museum, where they have stuff on the railway that was built between Thailand and Burma by the POW's in the second world war. I didn't realise so many of the POW's were British and we went to a cemetery after, which was quite sad. One of the guys in our group managed to find the grave stone of a relative he was looking for.
We had dinner and then got some really cheap rum from seven eleven and drank on the terrace above the pool at the guesthouse, which overlooked the river. After a few of us went to a club, which was completely full of Thai's but was really fun.
