A new country in Asia and another epic bus journey... after 8 hours on the bus we arrived in Singapore. We were stayed in an area called Little India where most of the hostels are, checked in, and headed out for some much needed western food. Needless to say Little India stuck to its name and after walking around for what seemed like hours, with no McDonnalds in site we ended up settling for a sandwhich at our hostel and crashed.
The next day we went to Sentosa Island which is a bit like a mini Disneyland with little beaches, volleyball and rollerbladers everywhere. Our first stop was to the aquarium where we got to get up close to the sting rays and puffer fish before going on the conveyer-belt walkway which took you through the different glass tunnels in the massive tanks. We then went to the dolphin show and got front row seats (amongst all the kids) and enjoyed watching all the different tricks they did. After some lunch we went on the Luge which is a kind of taboggan which goes down a road track down the island and afterwards you get the cable car back to the top. We had lots of fun racing around the track although Harri definately scared a few of the locals as she raged around the corners. We decided to try out the geo Segway's which are a two-wheeled platform that you ride around around the island but we went for the fun ride which was a circut around a track they had made. We wanted to get the most for our money and back tracked a couple of times but they thought we were lost and soon directed us in the right direction of the one-way track. That night we decided to sample the Singaporian nightlife and headed out to Clarke Quay with a couple of girls from our hostel. We ended up goin to a club which had a live cover band who were quite good and shared a couple of drinks with the locals before getting back to the hostel at 7am.
The next day we met up with Mark and Lorraine Barnard and their girls who are Britt's family friends for some lunch. We went to a vegetarian restaurant so Harri was in her element and caught up over a meal. After lunch Lorraine, Courtney, Harri and I went to Chinese Foot Reflexology and got completely pampered and enjoyed watchig Harri try to control the giggles as they masaged our feet! After a relaxing afternoon we sadly had to say goodbye to the Barnard's and headed back to our dorm. After a few hours of much needed sleep we headed out to a club called Zouk reccomended by a few gyus from our hostel. We had a really good night but have never felt like such a minority making up two of the five westerners in the whole club. It was our last night in Singapore and we definately made the most of it.
We had an early start the next day because we had to check out of our hostel. In the evening we will fly from Singapore to Brisbane and get a connection to Cairns where we'll start our Australian adventures.
Keep well, love lots, Britt and Harri xxx
