Sadly Marco had to leave for Buenos Aires on Friday morning, but the rest of us headed down to Tulum. We arrived in time for lunch and enjoyed some more amazing empanadas and a beer. We then headed to the Tulum Mayan ruins. The setting is stunning - the ruins are dominated by the main Castillo, which looks out over white sand and the turquoise blue of the Caribbean sea. We spent a couple of hours here taking photo-after-photo. That evening, before Darinka and Courtney had to leave we sat down for a dinner of tacos. We tried a sauce that was made from the hottest habanero pepper - I got a little bit cocky and put a little more on my taco than I should have. I paid the price the next day. Lesson learned... On saturday our prayers were finally answered. The sun appeared and the clouds disappeared. Mitch and I headed straight down to the beach. Most of the day was spent here relaxing and listening to music. I even managed to tan a little ;-). In the evening we joined a table at the hostel and had a good time chatting over a few beers. We met Natalia (Polish) and Camilla (Swedish) who would be heading to Belize a day after Mitch and I. Wr had booked tickets to Belize City. With the bus leaving at 00:45, we had the day to relax. I had stupidly forgotten my waterproof jacket in the hostel in Playa, but Courtney had kindly left it at the reception when she got back. I used the spare time to make the one hour journey back to Playa on a collectivo and collect it. It's a sign of how relaxed things are here that the driver randomly stopped at the side of the road to sample some papaya from a street vendor before deciding to buy one. Sadly, when I arrived they didnt have my jacket. Looks like someone had stolen it. Gutted. Hopefully my mood would improve when I got to Caye Caulker......
