As I was thinking about what I should do today I remembered seeing signs for The Bulgaria Salsa Festival. The Bulgaria Salsa Festival takes place at the National Palace of Culture. This festival brings together top international DJs, instructors, and performers for a weekend salsa in Sofia. If you are confident enough in your salsa skills you can enter the festival's salsa contest for a chance to attend the World Salsa Championship. This championship is help in Las Vegas later in the year.
While I was at this festival I just had to try a Bulgarian Kebapche. A kebapche is a meatball made of minced meat and spices, and it is shaped like a sausage. A kebapche is more or less the same as a kyufte, which is also a meatball made from minced meat and spices, with the exception that it does not contain chopped onions. A kebapche also has to be grilled or else you will get something very different. Kebapches, I discovered, go very well with french fries and Bulgarian cheese.
To help remind me of all of the fun times I've had here I decided to get myself a traditional Bulgarian doll. I know that's not very manly, but that's okay. Bulgarian dolls are normally dressed in a traditional Bulgarian costume. These costumes are either fashioned from cloth or carved from wood and then painted. This doll is going to make a wonderful addition to my, already plentiful, collection of European souvenirs.
