Well, two days down.......... lots to go!!! I arrived in London safely after a long 27 hours of flying. My flights were great - great food, great amount of leg room, but disappointed that I got sat next to old people and not some young hot guy!!!
When I arrived in London, Shareen was there to meet me at the airport and I had my first experience on the tube (god help London!!). I couldn't even get to the actual tube - i stood at the top of the escalator calling to Shareen who had already gotten on to come back because I couldn't work out how to get on the escalator with all my luggage and without falling down - great start Brown, great start!!!
We went to the oldest pub in London for lunch - right on the Thames. It was lovely. And so was the pear cidar that complimented the meal!!!
When we got home, Chook made some Pimms - apparently a divine summer drink in England. Well, it wasn't awful, but it was a little weird drinking alcohol with cucumber, apple, orange & lime in it!!
On Monday, I set off on my first solo journey around London. I caught the tube to St Paul's to see St Paul's Cathedral. St Paul's is a lovely part of London, lots of old buildings. The Cathedral was amazing. I ended up finding a tour group, so jumped on the back of the line and listened to what the lady had to say (hee hee hee!!!). I climbed all 528 stairs to the very top of the dome and boy can I feel it tonight!!! Lots of little metal stairs in a spiral staircase - I could throw myself out of a plane no worries, but gee these stairs were a little scary!!! The view from the top was incredible and well worth the climb.
I then proceeded to walk across the Millenium bridge to South Bank where I started the River Walk - a lovely stroll along the River Thames. I passed the most gorgeous little group of shops selling hand made items (jewellery, art etc).
I then moved on and did the real touristy thing - the London Eye. It was another amazing view of London.
Later in the afternoon I went across to check out Big Ben and Westminster Abbey - lots of history there. I saw the William Shakespear tomb at the Abbey.
Shareen met me after work and we walked to Trafalgar Square to see the Nelson's Column and the National Gallery. We then walked on to Leicester Square - a lovely park.
And now I won't be far out of bed!! A big day, but I was determined not to let jet lag set in. We are off to the theatre tomorrow night and I head off on my first tour on Thursday.
