Emirates weren't as amazing as I thought they were going to be. The meals were excellent but their staff let them down big style. They all looked like it was their first job and no one knew what they were meant to be doing. The lady in front of me, was pregnant with twins and was sick for ages and not one of them came to ask her if she was Ok or needed anything.
Anyways despite the rude staff, it was great being able to stretch out and sleep lying down. I woke in time for breakfast and then managed to go back to sleep until we landed. So the lack of valiums didn't make much difference, I can sleep anywhere really as along as its not hot!!!
The flight arrived on time, and I got the shuttle bus into the centre straight to my hostel door. The drive from the airport into the city was so pretty, everything was so green and the roads were lined with flowers. I had only been here 30minutes but I was so impressed and it was stunning. The hostel I had chosen was a flash packers :) just because of my last experience in a dorm in Queenstown was awful, I wanted a nicer hostel and a female only dorm. The staff were so friendly, and it looked a really nice place. I couldn't check in until 3pm but I was allowed to use the showers and leave my bags in the locker room. So after a shower and a freshen up, it was about 11am so I headed straight out for the day.
I decided to get the hop on, hop off city sightseeing open top bus, to be able to get my bearings and see the sights. It took me to all the places I had been told about, through little India, passed the Raffles Hotel, along the botanical gardens, to the famous Orchard Street, passed the Singapore parliament house, Marina Bay Sands hotel and along the Singapore river passing Clarke Quay and Boat Quay.
I got off on Orchard Street, which is famous for all the shops. It's 6km of shopping malls, shopping malls and more shopping malls. Totally crazy.. There was Marks and Sparks, New Look, Top Shop, Coast, Karen Millen, Oasis and of course all the expensive brands and anything else you could imagine. I went into an Asian shopping mall to get some lunch, as I was tired by this time and ready for a seat. Well... It was a Sunday and it felt everyone in the whole city was in this mall. It was more market shops but there was so many people I actually got dizzy haha. I managed to get some Korean BBQ chicken and rice from the Asian food mall on the ground floor but finding a seat to eat it was impossible. I couldn't have got out of there quick enough, certainly not for anyone who's claustrophobic.
I had a walk around the fancy malls, before getting the bus to Clarke Quay, and I decided to walk to the hostel from there. It was roasting though, and I was melting big style by the time I reached the hostel, so it was straight into a cold shower :) bliss! I was also exhausted, as my sleep wasn't the best last night on the plane.
I ended up just having a quiet night in the hostel, as their was free wifi so managed to phone Mum and Shonagh :) I met two girls, Hannah and Sara, in my dorm that were really nice. Hannah asked if I wanted to go out for something to eat with her but I wasn't hungry plus I had my PJ's already on, so it was a cup o tea and bed for me.
Singapore is a lovely city and defiantly glad I made a stop here :) xxx
