Greetings from Bangkok!
Last day in Bangkok so got a fair few things to tell you all!!
Arrived really late on Friday evening and by the time we had been scammed by the taxi driver and arrived at our hotel we just sort of went to bed! Our hotel was actually quite nice. A boutique hotel with quite small rooms- we had bunk beds!! But quite interesting, there was even a roof top terrace and a Jacuzzi.
Saturday morning was an extremely early morning! We had to meet our tour bus at 630am. It took a nearly an hour to get to the next hotel because the driver kept getting lost so we could have had an extra hour in bed but never the less we eventually got on our way!
First stop was a local Market which to be honest apparent from a couple of weird looking fruits, it was the same as any other Market in the world. After this we made our way out in to the county side. Which I'd like to say was amazing however I think I had a touch of sleep apnea as I kept getting on the bus and falling asleep! However what I did see was pretty spectacular. Once out in the country side we got to have a ride in an Ox and cart through some paddy fields which was nice, except our oxen decided that they were attached the wrong way round and wanted to keep stopping which was slightly annoying! After the Ox ride we went to a national park for a short walk to an amazing waterfall, I've never seen one so big. Apparently the water is so strong that years ago 10 elephants were swept over the edge while they were drinking from the river. This is quite sad but shows how strong the water was!
Last stop of the tour was for lunch which was ok I guess. I had rice and chicken :-). After lunch we got to ride an elephant which was great fun. We sat on a bench on its back and then the mahout sat on its neck and made it go in the right direct. Some of the path went in to the river but like us our elephant had short legs and so we nearly got wet feet, he also wanted to play slot so kept trying to squirt us with water from his trunk which was very funny! After the river the mahout jumped off and let us take turns to sit and steer on the neck which was a very strange experience, I felt like I was going to fall off every step he made! And it's a long drop from an elephants back!
Sunday we decided was shopping day, so we walked to the Khosan road from our hotel and did a lot of haggling with the local traders for all sorts of goodies. Once we were shopped out we went on a river boat cruise to see some temples, the grand palace and some water villages. This was a well deserved cool down after shopping!
Sunday night we decided to take the Khosan road by storm! Not such a great idea when you have to fly the next day but well after several buckets (small buckets of vodka and red bull) and meeting some lovely people I can safely say it was a night I will never forget!!
On wards and upwards! Next stop Hong Kong!!
