Was supposed to go on an Eco-cycling trip in the countryside but ended up staying in town on my final day in Ubud. Glad I took the day off to relax and talk and just sit still for a little while. Met up with Julia and Ben and walked around the magical Monkey Forest where hundreds of wild monkeys hang out and terrorise the tourist who are foolish enough to bring bananas into the forest.
Watching the monkeys squabbling and playing was like observing a microcosm of human behaviour - fascinating! Took loads and loads of photos of them playing in the pond - they were having so much fun but the Alpha male kept trying to keep them in line. It was really funny!
Ben brought some toys and we watched how they interacted with them. Monkeys are alot like infants: testing the rubber toys by squeezing, rolling, pulling and, finally, by putting them in their mouths!
In the evening, went to a World Music Spiritual Festival at the Yoga Barn (one of the main venues for the Bali Spirit Festival). It was a beautiful setting, full of yoga-powered, beautiful people dancing ecstatically to new age music.
Not really my kind of scene, but it was good to see live music! I miss the culture and nightlife of the big city. Made me realise just how lucky I am in London where I get to see amazing musicians from all over the world. I guess you can't have it all...
