Today, Maria and her boyfriend went to a sweat lodge and she kindly let me use her car. So, using the excuse that I need a new, larger suitcase (which I do, considering all the new dresses I've purchased), I put the pedal to the metal and headed to the nearest Ross store in Kaneohe and bought a suitcase plus a couple of new dresses. Of course, this meant that the new suitcase is now FULL to the brim. I left the UK with a small, black 12kg bag and now I have a considerably larger, fire-engine red 22kg suitcase! Oh America...
After my shopping frenzy, I headed to Kailua and the gorgeous, powder-soft sand and Paul-Newman-eyes-blue sea of Lanikai beach. Last time I went there was on my first trip to Hawaii 18months ago and I fell in love with it then as I did now again. It is such a postcard perfect little beach - one of my favourite in the world! This time, it was a Sunday, so it was full of folks spending time with their families and friends. I swam for a bit and watched people kayak and paddle board towards Moku Lua Island.
Later in the afternoon, I drove up the North Shore and swam at Waimea Bay, bought some Huli-Huli chicken for dinner and watched the sunset @ none other than Sunset Beach. Driving home to Maria's at dusk, I was listening to the local Hawaiian radio station feeling relaxed and content - a great way to end my stay in Oahu. If course, I was sad to be leaving my good friend Maria, but also excited to go back to the Big Island and continue my journey onwards around the world.
