An early morning wake-up call!
We were woken up at 5.30am by banging on the door - it was the police telling us to move the camper van! Lisa groggily drove around trying to find us somewhere else to park, and we eventually found a quiet residential street, where we slept for a couple of hours and then tried to get up and dressed without anyone seeing! The girls then dropped me off in Cairns while they took the van back, and then we bought a smoothie while we waited for the shuttle to take us to Port Douglas. On the way the driver gave us lollies (he had my attention straight away!), and stopped at Rex's lookout, a spot on the cliff with great views of the Great Barrier Reef. The route to Port Douglas was really pretty - there was loads of palm trees and rainforest, and we saw a crocodile by a river, and an eagle's nest. Once there we checked into 'Dougies' which has hammocks, friendly staff, 'free love', clean facilities and is probably once of the nicest hostels we've stayed in. We then walked into town and along the beach, and had a wander around the boutique shops and had lunch. In the evening, after a quick nap, we made curry for dinner and then had an early night as we were all tired.
