Mardi Gras!
After an understandingly sleepless night, (which has left me scarred for life!), we got up and went into the CBD, to do some more sightseeing, We finally took some photos of the harbour in the sunshine, and then walked to the bridge to do the Pylon climb. The pylons are the four supporting structures at the entrances to the bridge, and from the top we got really good views over Sydney. From there we had a drink at a pub in the Rocks, using some vouchers we've been given at the hostel, and then caught a ferry to Darling Harbour, which was a nice way of seeing the city from the water. We had a big lunch to prepare us for tonight, and then a couple of drinks around the wharf, before going back to the hostel feeling a bit tipsy!
With a couple of hours until the Mardi Gras parade, we got ready into our exciting fairy outfits, and covered ourselves in glitter and facepaint! We got the train back into the city, and it was quite crowded once we got off, but we managed to secure a good spot on the parade route. The parade was so much fun to watch - there was lady boys, drag queens, the kids of gays and lesbians, and Ikea even had a float! The atmosphere was really friendly, and everyone was in a good mood, apart from the people fighting at the end of the night! When the parade finished we went into a bar around the corner, and had a few drinks and sang some karaoke - known as 'Trashyoke' by everyone that night! We sang 'Stop' by the Spice Girls and 'C' est la vie' by Bewitched - both went down very well with our gay fanbase!
