Today was the proper first day of Busabout. The bus to Bruges or Brugge wasnt too full so managed to catch up on some sleep.
Got to the hostel which has the most dodgy winding staircase ever. Its like as if the whole thing is going to collapse any second and with backpacks on everyone was feeling a bit worried.
Met a couple from Gold Coast who I spent the rest of the afternoon chatting to in the bar downstairs. Had some Framboise (rasberry beer), which you can get in NZ anyway but oh well, tastes better.
Hung out till 7pm when the walking tour started. The weather here is pretty bad, drizzling the whole time so got a bit wet. The canals have quite a few swans, geese and ducks. Outside the Bellfry there are two Frites (French Fry) stands, and they compete with each other who has the best fries. I tried one and they are pretty good. They have an array of sauces that go on top... close to 20 different ones. Also saw a windmill and ran in an old crane that looks like a hamster wheel.
Afterwards went back to the hostel and met some more Australians (they are everywhere). Two sisters from Melbourne and two guys from Perth who are cycling through parts of Europe... YES, CYCLING. They are absolutely nutters. Went out with them to a street which was literally called Party Street which consisted of about only 3 bars. There is a lack of women in this town, we thought some of the bars were gay bars just because they were almost filled with just men.
Oh all these people I met are just like me, they ALL quit their jobs to come to Europe haha. There is one girl here in the hostel that is always on her laptop though. She is apparently decoding genes. How cool is that. There is also a forensic scientist and a nurse. Some people get cool sounding jobs.
Anyway, tomorrow I am going to check out the Chocolate Museum, where according to their brochure, The Cocoa Fairy is going to take me to Chocolate Wonderland. Cant wait to meet this Cocoa Fairy.
