Well Australia has been an interesting one, we got to our hostel in Perth after hours of hanging around the airport and it really wasn't that great, we had already booked in for 1 week because we were going to set up work from there. Anyway we got all depressed and homesick and decided we didn't like Perth and so we were going to get the next flight out after our accomodation was finished.
Perth is like a ghost city theres not much going on and its still way back in the 80's and did we mention how EXPENSIVE it was, if you want to find any people they are usually on the beach surfing or just hanging around looking good, we would love to know how they funded this.
So while we were in Perth we went to Rottnest island which was nice, and we saw some wild quockas (mini wallabys) they were cute. We had a wander around Freemantle which was a little better than Perth city, still not much to do though.
The best things about Perth was their stunning beaches and their gorgeous park up on a big hill called Kings Park, it was lovely!
Eventually Friday arrived and we flew up to Ayers Rock, we watched the sunset on Ayers Rock which was really pretty, its amazing how many different colours it changes to and then the next morning we went for a cultue walk around the base of the Rock which was good and because we were so close to it you appreciated how big it was, it really is stunning!
But appart from the rock there was not much else to do there, and luckily we had only planned to be there 1 day, so then we flew to Cairns.
Cairns was a lot better than Perth, although, when we were there it was the wet season and they really do mean wet, but it was good because it was still really warm. We did a couple of trips, the first one we went up to the Daintree Rainforest which was amazing, all the wildlife and trees are just beautiful this is where the rainforest meets the sea, which is a strange thought but a lovely site and also where Cape tribulation is, this has a long storey about Captain Cook behind it.
The next day we went on a boat trip to th great barrier reef which was really cool, we're not into scuba diving so we just snorkled, but snorkling was enough to see all of the differet types of coral and fish, it was great, although we don't have any photos to put on the site because it was obviously all under water, but we did take a disposable under water camera so we caught a few pics.
Then we headed South to Townsville, where we caught a boat to Magnetic Island for a couple of nights, we swear this is the hottest and most humid place we have ever been it was really uncomfortable and no air conditioning to save us!!ahhh! While we were there we did a tour with a ranger of all the animals they have on the island. The Koalas were ace they are so cute and lazy, the snakes were terrifying and the lizards blue tounges were very funky, fortunatley we did not see any spiders or any poisionous snakes, but apparently because of the strange weather austrlalia is experiencing just now there had been three death adder attacks the few days before we had got there!!! But we didn't see any thank god!
Then we got back to main land and headed South again to Airlie Beach, where it rained and rained and rained. We thought the trip we had booked out to the Whitsundays sailing would be cancelled, but it wasn't, so off we went but it was a shame because we didn't get to see the islands in there full beauty and just as lunch was served on the boat we hit a monsoon, which was very scarey, but we had an awsome captain, he was probably mid 50's and he had clearly seen a storm or two in his day so i had great faith in him.
We made it back, to find out that our bus had been cancelled to leave the next day because the next town down was in a state of emergency/natural disaster, so we stayed another night and just kept trying to get on buses, but of course then there was a back log of people who couldn't get anywhere.
One day, we finally made it to Hervey bay, after an awful overnight bus journey, but we were booked into a really nice YHA, probably the best hostel we have stayed in yet. From there we took a boat to Fraser Island which is the largest sand island in the world, it was really weird because it has the largest fresh water spring under ground which feeds into many of the fresh water lakes on the sandy island????? work that one out. Quite unique, and stunning, there main road on the island was 75mile beach which was used by all 4x4s and light weight aircrafts, what a cool island!
While we stayed here we met two really nice couples and did lots of chatting, it was nice to speak to other couples who were travelling and exchange stories.
We arrived in Brisbane last Thursday, got all of our paper work sorted for work and now we are in a really nice appartment, sharing with a lady from new zealand and her two children who are trying to find permanent accomodation, they are really nice. It is relativly cheap compared with the hostels and now we are just waiting for some phone calls for work.
So for a while our stories will be a little bit boring, while we try and get some more pennies together for more adventuring.
Hope everyone is well
Emails are very welcome
It would be great to hear how everyone is!
lots of love
