I realise this update comes quite soon after the last one but over the weekend we experienced so much that it´s worth another entry. We went to Jaguaruna to Gizelle´s family´s beach house over the weekend, and had a really lovely time: no sunburns, no mosquito bites, just lots of sun and chilling out time. We had barbeques and walks in the sun; it was just the epitome of chilled. Me and Caitlin went with Gizelle, her brother, her sister and her nephew Gustavo, who I´m sure will feature a lot in my entries from here. I´ll take some time now to introduce you to him. Gustavo is a two year old boy, who has already learnt to love coffee, the taste of beer and The Black Eyed Peas. There has been many a time when I have walked into the kitchen and he´s sipping on shots of milky coffee... Me and Caitlin have also already begun to hate The Black Eyed Peas, as whenever Gustavo catches us on the computer he demands for ´Boom Boom´and makes us play and replay him the video on Youtube- I didn´t much like the song before, so its being incessantly repeated is juuuust great. But he is just so cute that it all equals out. He also loves my name, and frequently just runs around shouting ´Vicki, Vicki´even when he doesn´t want me.... Quite annoying at eight in the morning! But to be honest, it´s great practice for me and ´Caiti´(as he calls her) for when we have 25 hours a week of screaming children in Ghana. Anyway, enough of him: I´ll now try to describe Jaguaruna to you a little bit. I have honestly never been in a place with such diversity of landscape; within one small area of Santa Catarina you can find dense woodland with palm trees, mango trees and small shacks interspersed among it, white beaches which stretch as far as the eye can see, miles and miles of glowing white sand dunes, and rows and rows of houses in a setting which I can only liken to how I would imagine Spain to have been like in the 1960s and 70s. I´ve just never seen anything like it. The scenery is so beautiful that ´beautiful´doesn´t seem like an adequate word to cover it, but in the absence of good vocabulary it will have to do. I stupidly forgot to take many pictures, but whatever ones I have taken I will upload in the next few days. We came back on Sunday, and went to see the ´rehearsal´for Carnaval that evening. Four hours of straight dancing and festivities ensued, and if that was anything to go by, Carnaval itself seems like it´s going to be a lot of fun! It starts on Thursday, and ends on the 8th so I´ll be sure to keep you updated when I get the time to post. All my love, Vick xxx
