Today marks Day 5 of my trip to the Big City. I started off my stay experiencing true Mexican hospitality when I was so kindly invited into the home of a friend of mine who lives in one of the many "suburbs" that surrounds the city. He also became my guide, showing me the sights of Toluca, and teaching me how to use my new camera without looking like such a tourist!
After a couple of days of delicious home cooking, I moved to the centre of it all...I am in a great hostel right behind the zocalo (central square). I brought in my birthday with another old friend, playing some really embarassing games of pool, and drinking cola de caballo, or as we like to call it - Beer and Clam!
My birthday present to myself, and the main reason that I am here, was Shopping! First thing Sunday morning I found my favourite market and found that a year and a half later almost everything is in the same place, so it took little effort to find the vendor I was in seach of---and so once again I am stocked up on obsidian and various other stones---just what I need, more weight to carry!!
Tomorrow I am off to Taxco for a couple of days, to see what I can find in the town of silver, before coming back for one more weekend in the City...
Hope all is well with everyone and I will write again when there is something a little more interesting to tell you.....
