Let me start with: What a day and if we keep this up we´ll have calves, thighs and buns of steel. Of course Anne won´t have any feet left due to all the blisters on blisters on blisters. We arrived in Latacunga to do the Quilotoa loop, after a busride to Zumbahua share a car to the crater and lake Quilotoa. The view is just amasing!!! The locals believe there is no bottom to this lake, the water is green and blue and changes colour as the sun and clouds play above.
After a short walk around the crater top we veer of and follow a trail zigzagging along the hillside. All roads lead to Rome, right? We walk for a good hour taking in the great views and then the trail stops at someone´s house... Oeps we just walked a hour in the wrong direction and there is no other path. (trust me we asked, got attacked by a dog... the usual!)
We consider our options, go back, stay there, find a horse... hhm. But end up overpaying a man we bump into on his way home... Just the idea of reaching our destination tonight without anymore detours sounds pretty awesome! Off we go again hugging the crater rim along tiny paths ans up steep inclines. The crater rim is at about 3800m. And wonder by wonder almost two hours later arrive in Guayama where our guide leaves us. Only 6.6km from our destination now!!
We continue untill we reach a great lookout, and can finally see Chugchilan. Its a valley away. Yes ahead one more steep downhill never ending zig.zag. At the bottom we cross a river and are then faced with a CLIMB! Little zig.zagging this time, just a wall basicly.. and this is hour 5 of the hike, but only one way and this is it.
We arrive in Chugchilán, exhausted, starving! But what a day, what a hike! :D
The next day we took the lechero! :D )yep the milkman´s cart to the next town instead of the hike!!!)
