¡Hola!
After a long long day of planes busses and airline food! YUM! We arrived in Quito and made our way to the Hostel with a rooftop view of the city. Thousands of light twinkeling in the dark formed the city beneath us. The virgen and its Las vegas surroundings welcomming us! (this is not Africa!)
The next morning was blue skies and sunshine so we HAD TO go up the Teleferico to see the cruz del Sur at 4100m! And once there we HAD TO walk to the summit at +/-4700m to the peak of the volcano Rucu Pichincha. On the way we discovered why every guide book advised not to do anything strenuous and especially not this hike during the first couple of days! Acclimatisation is indeed necessary. We were also warned it would be cold so to dress warmly!!! The sun decided otherwise so there we where up a mountain panting and boiling! Stopping every 10m to catch our breath... After an hour we had to lie down in the full on sun just to burn a little more.
Back in town we had a quick and yummy ceviche and forced ourselves to continue walking around old Town. And so completes day 1 with a sunburn om U tegen te zeggen!
For more details about Quito, see us when we get back.

Fliss Great to hear about your fantastic adventures. Tempting fate with sunburn and altitude sickness ;-)
