Apologies for the long delay, but it would appear that STA Travel blogs have not been liking my connection, or perhaps vice versa!
We were warmly welcomed to Tasmania by Heather's mum and a few of her family (her cousin was on a different flight but roundabout the same time) and we were introduced to our transport for the week - a hefty six seater MPG! We stayed at their place in Devonport for a couple of nights, which included trips to many beautiful parts of Northern Tassie: Sheffield, Tasmazia and the town of Lower Crackpot (yes, that is a proper place), and Platypus House at Beauty Point on the way down to the Tasman Peninsula to stay with her aunt and uncle, Lesley and Pete, in their beautiful, isolated, idyllic place on a shark sanctuary. While down there we visited Port Arthur, an old prison where convicts were taken, and for a history geek like me, was absolutely fascinating. Our trip to Tasmania was finished in Hobart, where Heth went to uni, driving up mountains, window shopping in some rather lovely expensive artisan shops and meeting up with Childnet friends who I haven't seen since 2004. Of course my favourite memory of this trip is the time I have spent with Heather, who I have known since I was 10 years old but never properly met. It was like being reunited with my long lost twin -
We are now in Sydney. Had an interesting time at the airport when our promised shuttle didn't show up (it was ok in the end, the hotel paid for a taxi). Our hostel is in Wooloomooloo, which is worth it purely for the walk to Darling Harbour via the Botanical Gardens. I swear we see something different in there every day. The best one has been fruit bats! So far we have toured the Sydney Opera House (the access is fantastic, as is the building itself), roamed the Rocks Market with Bec and Jenna, my friends from year abroad, seen some fantastic street performers who were there for the Biennale, Manly and Bondi Beach and today we have done Taronga Zoo, and I got to stroke a wombat and walk with wallabies and kangaroos! We scored a couple of brilliant deals for travel and attractions at the tourist office so we have paid about $80 for all of our public transport this week and $100 which covers the Aquarium, Tower, Wildlife World and the sea life centre at Manly.
We are doing the Tower, lunch with Bec and Jenna, and the Aquarium tomorrow, so keep an eye out for photos! (Another thing the Blog is not liking - I will keep perservering!)
