So we have made it to Auschwitz! It took a fair while but we are finally here! Just waiting for our your at 2:30pm
We visited kotna hora first which was awesome! The bone church. Took plenty of freaky photos.
Once we crossed the border into Poland, things got tricky. We got fairly lost but at least we have made it.
I have to say that Auschwitz is not the nicest place in the world. It is depressing! So shocking to see the hair of the prisoners, the shoes, the prayer shawls, the pots and pans and the luggage. It truly puts into perspective the amount of people that were there. It was also a reminder that Hitler intended to get rid of the Polish as well!
Not to mention the execution wall...
The disgusting conditions the people were in made me sick too. How can humanity be so cruel? It's such a reminder to people that this form of genocide, this war, should never happen again. Sometimes I think about how the white people came to Australia and fought the aboriginals, took children away to bring them up white, isn't it the same? The mass genocides in Rwanda 1994, the same? Not to mention everything happening in Syria..
It really gets you soul searching. It puts your life into perspective. Our pain is nothing compared to what these people were force to go through due to their race, religious and political belief, sheer bad luck, it's horrible.
On a lighter note, we ended up staying at a hotel across the road from auschwitz which wasnt too bad at all! Nice breakfast, lovely dinner, decent room. I liked it. Hotel olecki. It cost 280zl for the night. $82 or $27 each! Awesome!
Poland is also so cheap. Our dinner last night cost $28! I had a soup and a salad and a water. Kate had a massive risotto and sprite and Scott had a pork tenderloin and 500ml beer! Cheap!! Defs need to come back and experience warsaw and krakow!
