A good hour jeepdrive from Jaisalmer and you are in the desert!
That is where we and another couple got dropped to meet our camels and camel drivers.
After everything was loaded on the backs of the camels, we got on... The most tricky part of the whole story actually is when the camel gets up! Pretty steep and bumpy when it gets up with the back feet first and then front after!! But once you are up there, there's not much to it ;-)
So we took off through the bushland which was rather green after the monsoon time. Finally we arrived at the sanddunes and that's where it got interesting again when the camels walked downhill almost sliding down the dunes!
It was pretty windy that day so we had to find a sheltered spot for our camp between the dunes. Then our guides started to prepare a delicious meal and we helped baking rothis. Very cool to be sitting in the dunes eating rice and curry with your fingers ;-)
Pretty early we went to bed in really luxurious campbeds and swags and watched the incredibly stary sky before trying to find a sleeping position that did not blow sand in our faces all the time!
Breakfast was early the next morning before the camels were loaded again and we made our way back, stopping at a desert village where we met some women and kids... I always find it a bit awkward to go and see how people live, but of course it was interesting!
Another hour on camelback and we were back at the basecamp.
A wonderful experience with those animals but also with our guides and camping and cooking in the desert ;-)
