Sizzling 44°C when we stepped out of the train in Agra on Monday afternoon.
Still we got our act together and went to visit Agra Fort, where the builder of the Taj Mahal was imprisoned by his own son and only got to see his wife's shrine from the window... kind of sad!
Then to the so called baby Taj on the other side of the river and finally to see the sunset from a park just across the river, perfectly in line with Taj Mahal.
This morning then we got up just after 5 to view the sunrise from our rooftop terrace. Nice!!
Afterwards we walked straight to the entry where at this time of the day it was not busy at all. Only the monkeys were going wild and attacking me- bit of a fright there when I think about those teeth!
Then finally walking through the main gate. Quite an impression I have to say, also knowing that this is a once-in-a-lifetime thing. The Taj Mahal rising behind the park with the waterfountains (which were switched off so there was a perfect reflection on the water) circled by the red mosques and gates... An amazing piece of art!
Getting closer there was more artwork to be observed, those marble carvings and especially the work where the marble was carved and then inlayed with coloured stones. Incredible how minuscule and delicate it was done, and all by hand of course!
Rumour has it that the king had all the workers hands chopped off so they could never again build something as beautiful as the Taj Mahal!
