Spent the day by the pool whiilst Nick went scuba diving. He saw a crashed WWII American Fighter plane, an octopus, sponge crab and two spotted congo eels (gutted I wasn't there war stuff and fish at the same time!). In the evening we went to Ala Moana to see the Memorial Day Lantern Floating. I thought it would be a commemoration of the men and women who lost their lives at war. However, the Hawaii take on memorial day is let's do it in Japanese and people can light lanterns for anyone i.e. dead pet parrot, dog or Great Aunt Polly. It was like us celebrating St Davids Day by inviting the Scottish over and having a Ceilidh. America seems loath to celebrate it's Americaness. Never the less it was very impressive to see all the lanterns floating out to sea. We will not however by swimming at Ala Moana in the morning as each lantern was attached to a wooden float (not good from a health and safety perspective!)
