Today we left Chez Henriette as Nick has booked us into the Bora Bora Pearl Beach Resort for my birthday (now you all know this is a complete lie!) We are at the Pearl Beach but I booked it for myself as after 25 years I know that my birthday present off Nick will be totally off the wall and something I really do not want or need. Some of you will remember the electric blanket, extension lead and patio heater to name but a few. Eric from the Pension helped out with the booking and managed to get it for us at 450 pounds per night (locals rate) as opposed to the tourist rate of 800 pounds per night (bargain!) Anyway we caught the boat to the resort and were met by a number of hotel staff bearing gifts of leis and cocktails. We were then escorted to our overwater bungalow which is amazing, the occasional tables have glass bottoms fixed into the floor so you can see the fish and one of the pieces of glass even opens so you can feed them (who thinks up these things???). Once we were settled we decided to go and try as many of the free activities as we could. Started off taking a kayak out which wasn’t very successful as we managed to capsize it within a couple of minutes. .Then we borrowed some snorkeling gear and went snorkeling through the reef where there were loads of fish (I checked with Nick beforehand and he assured me there were no sharks in the lagoon). An hour later what do I see but a shark in the lagoon! Waited for the sun to go down and decided to try out the bar as it was happy hour. The price of the drinks was still crazy even at half price but the barmaid brought us a plate of nibbles to go with them and kept on bringing plates of nibbles every time we ordered another drink – so we carried on drinking till we’d had enough to eat (simples!)
