I've arrived in Shanghai after a good flight and have spent my first couple of days here realising my age. I could see after the British Council meeting in London that I'd be more than double the average age of all the other language assisatants here and felt a bit apprehensive about that, wishing the first two weeks to be over as quickly as possible. We're on a two week training course in the Pudong area of Shanghai, learning Chinese from scratch, learning teaching techniques........... It could be some sort of torture and I was losing the will to live at times on the first day but things are already much better. I'm now in a different group for Chinese, watch helps a lot. There's only so much 'ma, ma' you can cope with before you freak out. I'm also coping with being the Mum here and trying to just be myself. It's been much better since I've relaxed into it.
We've been out for a few meals, been to the centre of Shanghai briefly and I'm looking forward to exploring on Sunday.
