Howdy everybody, in my first blog outside the might US of A!
I have not been able to update for ages, basically in San Fran they had internet but it banned my blog for some reason, so now I can do that and put all my pictures on, I do have a colossal amount.
Well my last blog was from Monterey in the first day....the day after I went Kayaking on the sea. This was lots of fun, although it was only a sit on kayak as opposed to a proper one as I was out by myself. The guy said that I was supposed to stay within 50ft of the bay wall, and to keep away from the seals (He didn't find my "But two seal coats was enough" joke funny). So first thing I did was paddled away from the harbour to the seals, there was loads of them, it was really good. I didn't approach them just had a close look. Went for a long paddle away and to the beach, where I did surfing for awhile. The waves were pretty big, and I managed to catch quite a few. The trouble was I would ride it, it would take me to the shore and stick the nose in the sand and that would dunk me either way. I got banged on the head a couple of times, lost my 4th pair of sunnies and got bloodied knuckles. On the beach a Korean family started waving at me, they were very nice. It was there I met the first of the two new love interests in my life (Sorry Lozza), Dong-Dong (Dont get jealous Scott). She asked if she could take pics, and she did, then when I was back on shore she got my email address and sent them all to me, it was very nice of her. She took about 30.......
The next day I went on a nice long bike ride accross the coastal line. I did 11 and a half miles to Pebble Beach, which is a famous golf course. They had a par 3 course there so I played a couple of rounds there for and our and a half, it was great fun. I shot a 34, john would have had no chance ha ha. Cycled back, 23 miles in total I was very tired. Met a few nice people in the evening, got chatting to them for a while. There was a rather strange guy from the US staying in my dorm, he was nice, but he had an obsession with the fog. Whenever he saw anybody he would ask them where they had been, and the next question, as sure as night follows day, was "Was it foggy?" He asked one of the lads in my room and I got the giggles for far too long, so I had to leave before he got too offended!
The next day I left to get the bus to get to San Fran via San Jose, where I bumped into my second love interest, 'Sunny Fawcett' (Not a porn star, despite having a rather good name for one I thought) Now Sunny was a hippy probably in her mid 40's, she chatted away to me for a very long time, about the joys of positive thinking and nutrition. I tried to look interested, and stayed polite etc. I said I had to go, and she said that everybody should have 8 hugs a day, so she gave me my first one and said I was very nice......So I got the bus to the transit centre, and waited for the coach to San Jose and who turns up.....but my friend Sunny Fawcett. She jogs up to me and gave me a card with a picture of a sun and her number and adress and told me if I was ever in the area to give her a call.....Well I would do that only if they cancelled my root canal appointment. After this an nice Aussie couple saw this and laughed so I got chatting to them all the way to San Fran, so that was really good. Got to san Fran and I was staying in the Centre at union square, which was supposed to me the 'heartbeat' of the city, and it was I suppose. Dropped my stuff off at the hostel, which was frankly a dive, but I actually liked it, it was very quirky. I did a bit of shopping, walked round, and came back for a quite evening in the common room watching films with the others which reminded me of the blitz spirit, but I enjoyed it.
The next day I did the whole tourist thing, walked down to fishermans walf, did all my souvineer shopping, and caught a boat around golden gate bridge and alcatraz, which was amazing, but very choppy and unsafe, and there was quite a bit of fog. But I loved it, some of the better sights Ive seen so far!
I went back for the evening after another day zipped by, and got chatting to these japanese lads in my room about lots of things for ages. Then went upstairs and there was a big group of people playing drinking games getting ready to go out and they were all friendly so I grabbed a few beers and joined in. We went out in San Fran, which was an experience! Went to a few bars and ended up in a 'club', which was a bar, a dive bar but again I really liked it. The music was bizzare, with Stranglers, Trex, Pulp, and James being the music I remember. There was 11 lads and 1 girl out, so we all had a really good, albeit surreal time. We wondered home at about 2am, and I stayed up till 4. Got up early the next day to check out, went to watch the England game with a few ppl, however the cover charge was $20, so we went to the park instead. Got a greyhound, 25 hours to Vancouver....which was pretty horrific but there you go! Got in at 4pm yesterday, and was met by my Cousin (Sort of) Steven. Im staying with mygreat auntie and uncle Doreen and Brian, in their place in the mountains of North Vancouver. It is fantastic here, the views are great, and I am being treated exceptionally well. Had my first home cooked meal for what seems like an eternity, so I was very happy. Today we went out to the observation tower, the views were amazing, and had a wonder round town.
Thats about it really, hope it wasnt too long/boring for you all.
See you soon!
