Today we are heading to Jackson Wyoming. Deciding we should check out the Great Salt Lake which this area is named after we did a detour to there. Probably wasn't worth it, as lakes go it's far from pretty. The area around it is industrial; mining, power plants etc.
we skirted the city, set the GPS to avoid highways and set off. For the most part it was dry prairies, mostly horses and cattle as well as the odd sheep and even some musk ox here and there. We did spot one kestrel but by the time we had stopped and gone back it had taken flight. There was something going on with more than one film crew setting up near a small river and between the two what appeared to be a catering marquee was also being set up.
Our second detour of the day was to Fossil Butte Monument. The information centre had some awesome fossils but we didn't see any in the park. We had lunch in the park and did some wildlife spotting; our first deer this year a small unaccompanied faun and as we were leaving the park a prairie dog. Back on track for Jackson we spotted more fauns & kestrels, some llamas and quite a few more sheep but still no lamb for sale!
It's quite cold, about 12c but also dropping at one point to as low as 7c with heavy clouds still prevalent all the way.
We crossed briefly from Wyoming into Idaho and back again.
We got to our hotel about 6.30pm, it seems very comfy and close to Teton which was our aim. Simple pasta dinner, a little catching up with on line stuff and an early night. Tomorrow the parks begin.
