An early night last night meant an early morning today. We were out and about just as the sun was rising. It was seriously cold like -1! The car had frost on it lol the sun coming up opposite our room was gorgeous but nothing compared to the sight that presented a coup,e of minutes from our hotel, the Tetons looked amazing, fog it's the sun glinting off it, just beautiful.
We spent five hours out and about in Grand Teton National Park, spectacular scenery but not a lot of wildlife. Spotted a large herd of bison way off in the distance, some deer, lots of chipmunks and a gorgeous fox crossing the road. We spent 30 or so minutes watching a coyote hunting, it would get quite intent then pounce. Sometimes he'd come up chewing on a snack, other times he'd miss.
We returned to our hotel for lunch before setting off again.
Back in the park we headed for Mormon Row. Before we got there we spotted a lot of people over by a river. They had found moose! We spent about an hour watching, a big bull, two cows and a couple of calfs. Further up river was a younger bull but he never got very close to us. A little way up the road it was a herd of antelope that caught our attention. Turning down Mormon Row there was a herd of bison, mostly adults but there were a couple of calves too.
We finally got there to the old houses and barns. In the yard of one house there was a wedding taking place, the bridal car a big old tank with cows horns on the front. At the last lot of houses there were more bison slowly moving away from us.
From there we headed for the high up look out of Signal Mountain which was amazing. Simply spectacular.
We then we're heading to another spot when we saw a heap of cars parked, turned out they'd found a grizzly! It was a big boy, a bit away from us in some trees but once he got up and moved away he was easily seen.
We stopped in at a few look outs and the scenery was all amazing. At one lake look out there was a squirrel up a tree munching on small pine cones and throwing the empty cones down on us lol. The next stop was at Oxbow, again great mountain views and a helpful ranger. We checked to see where to find beavers and headed to where she suggested. It was awesome! At a beaver made lake we saw a team of 4 or 5 beavers doing their thing, they were just fabulous to watch.
The sun was setting as we left the beaver dams. We set off back for our hotel thoroughly exhausted and very happy with our day.
