Another cool but clear day in North Carolina. Again Larry made us breakfast while we did some more work. Larry went for a run and just after he returned he noticed the horses had gotten out of their paddock and were happily grazing on the front lawn lol. He bolted out and asked what they thought they were doing, they instantly kicked up their hooves and bolted up the long driveway back to where they should be! It was so funny, they were like naughty kids who knew they were where they shouldn't be!
Larry called chef Brian to make sure his offer was genuine not just a product of too many golden monkeys lol Brian remembered so on the way to the Dixie fair we dropped off a stack of crab legs, scallops and prawns for him to prepare for us later.
The fair was interesting, sort of a smaller scale Ekka. The main difference was the degree to which the food stalls went to be different. There were some dreadful sounding things all deep fried like pizza, cookies and just about anything you can imagine that in our opinion was bad enough as it was without them deep frying them! Of course there were the usual suspects like corn dogs, a hundred variations on candy apples, maple candy floss which Pete and Veronica assure me is awesome. Larry and I had a dona kebab for lunch, Pete got a Philly cheese steak and Veronica opted for something from the BBQ pit. We watched some pig races which were run by a couple and their two small kids. Clearly from the Bible Belt, there was a sign saying something about god bless you or some such and their two boys had names like Ezekiel and Malachi.
For the last few days we've been watching hurricane Matthew come up through the Caribbean and was scheduled to hit Florida later. Veronica's parents were due to leave Florida Friday by car train but the train has been cancelled so they started driving to here this morning, due in about 8.30 or so tonight.
After the fair Pete and Larry went down to the pond and fished for bass. Larry got a couple and released them but all Pete got was a few bites.
We headed back to the restaurant again to see what chef Brian had come up with using Larry's seafood. Along with L & V's son Hayden there was also their daughter Erica and her boyfriend Christian, all three are such lovely young people.
We had an awesome night, chef Brian outdid himself with plate after plate of perfectly cooked king crab legs with a couple of butters for dipping them in followed by a plate each of pasta with the prawns and scallops. Hayden also got some of the chicken wings that he'd done for us the night before and loaded fries which were shared so there was plenty of food. Pete tried the golden monkey beer which the chef and Jamie had both been drinking the night before, he only got the one before they ran out so switched to another. He's getting quite a craft beer education!
It was a great evening, we went back home due to Veronica's parents being due. They got there a little after us, we had a few more drinks, talked and watched some comedy clips. Larry introduced Pete to crown royal apple shots, a type of whisky with apple, not my thing but they enjoyed them. There were lots of q's re Australia and our life style.
It was well after midnight when we called stumps and headed for bed.
