Wow! What a day we had today!
Today I was pushed well out of my comfort zone and experienced things that I never thought I would do. The first part of our day after breakfast was to head to the Iguacu Falls park. It was absolutely massive! We started by taking a bus down to the start of the trek where we would eventually end up at the Falls themselves.
We were up very high and unfortunately there was lots of cloud and mist but the views were still spectacular. You had to walk on a path that weaved in and out of plants, trees and we even saw a wild monkey clambering about in the branches!
We carried on this trail until we were a lot closer to the falls. By this point it was like heavy rain so we bought some plastic ponchos! As we got nearer the noise got louder and we got wetter and wetter! There was a point in the trail where you could walk over a part of the falls and it was like a windy monsoon! This was the first drenching in Iguazu water!
Then we got a lift back up to the top and caught a bus to the start of the Iguazu Safari. This started off as a ride in a traitor type vehicle and was narrated by a guide. Once we had travelled through parts of the forest, we had a small walk through the vegetation down to where the boat ride was. I say boat ride, but it was a speed boat through the rapids down to the falls themselves and going in to them!!!
It was 100% guaranteed that you would be soaked. I was feeling incredibly nervous at this point as I'm not a fan of boats (small ones anyway) and especially not ones that travelled at speed through massive Rapids!
But we took our shoes off, wrapped up in our ponchos and headed down into the boat. I sat in the middle and hoped it wouldn't be as bad as I thought it might.
Suddenly we were off! Zooming at high speed against the huge current of the river heading straight to the Falls. Massive waves knocked us high into the air many times but I did eventually enjoy myself! The experience was incredible!
Going into the falls themselves was breath taking literally as you were swamped with cold water and spray. Three times we were plunged into the falls and were soaked through everything!
After that we speed back through the Rapids and then back to the jetty where we got off and went to sort ourselves out. I don't remember ever being that wet through...!
From the falls, we then caught the bus back to the start and changed into our clean dry clothes in the car park - cue much amusement as Gisela disappeared under a bright orange tarpaulin to change her trousers!
Once dry, we walked further along the road and into the bird park. This was a fascinating place full of tropical bird species that also allowed you to get up and personal with them. My favourite part was the walk through avery with the toucans and the macaws. Absolutely fascinating to watch them fly! We even managed to get a selfie with a very camera loving toucan! I even saw a wild hummingbird which I have never experienced before!
Just before we left Sam and I had the opportunity to hold a macaw and have our photo taken.
All in all it was an incredible day! We had a massive Brazilian Italian feast for dinner and now my eyes are continuously trying to close!
Tomorrow, we head to Gisela and Manoels farm to carry on our adventures.
Hopefully being at the farm will allow me to post up lots more pictures properly for you to see.
Right, it's goodnight for now and speak to you soon,
Donna xxxx
Ps. For some reason this silly blog won't let me put images the right way up so I will try to sort this out at the farm as I can't do much on my iPad!

Sam If you think I look a little portly in my poncho, this is due to the fact that I am carrying both my own backpack and Donna's valued Longchamp handbag underneath it. And is nothing to do with the local burrascerias who constantly bring you more food even when you have said "no more, I cannot eat another thing..." on several occasions.
Sam Churracherias. Silly spell check.
