What a day! After a relaxing start in Essouira we are now escaping the bustling madness of Marrakech in a terrace cafe above the main square. The couple of days in Essouira was just what we needed-so relaxed and laid back. As we entered Marrakech earlier we braced ourselves! Sundays seem to be the Moroccan holiday...it is so so busy! After fighting through hoards of people, snake charmers (eek!) and acrobats we found our accommodation with relative ease (escaped down a small side street it is an old riad with a lot of Moroccan character and charm and the most laid back owners we have come across!). Enchanted from our last visit, we were tempted back to the main square for our dinner (in the street stall 'cafes'). Even busier than before, there was even more of a buzz about the place. Only 3Dh (about 20p each) for our harira (soup) and a nice chat with a Moroccan philosophy student sat next to us promised for a good dinner! But it got even better when we found a spices tea stall...a little more adventurous than we were on our last visit to the city we joined the locals and shared a glass of what tasted like liquid cinnamon and spices with some spice 'cake'...blooming delicious! Why they don't sell it in normal cafes is beyond me...unless there is something to be concerned about?!
