The moment i arrived in Florence i instantly loved it much more then Rome. It had a really nice feel about it and was full of locals instead of millions of tourists. I found my hostel 'Plus Florence' which was a 5 star hostel! It had a pool, spa, sauna, bar, restaurant, nice rooms with balcony's and clean beds, so good! I met Renee from Perth and Vincent from Holland and we chatted away on our balcony with some wine planning the next days adventures together... We were all pretty hungry and went to find some yummy itilian pizza. We found the best pizza i've ever eaten and the people let me try and make my own.. I got behind the bench, needed the doe, rolled it out an covered it in oil an herbs before scooping it into the wood fired oven it was so funny, it burnt to a crisp because i clearly dont know how to roll proper doe but i officially made itilian pizza in italy so im stoked!
At 7.30am Renee shook me awake saying i had 30 mins to be ready an dressed because we had such a huge day planned so i jumped up and off we went, she was so organised and for the whole day i just followed her an Vincent from site to site amazed at the architecture of the city. Our first stop was a huge dome and clock tower, we climbed to the top of both after massive 2 hours lines but it was worth it and an amazing view over the entire city.
Florence was like a big cake that had been sliced up on all different angles, the buildings were tall and each block was a triangle shape. There were markets, castles, rivers, beautiful bridges, street performers, parks and fountains everywhere, it was a very pretty place. We ate 4 gelato cones that day plus pizza and pasta and finished off our sightseeing up the top of a huge hill (and a million stairs) overlooking the city - we managed to see every site in the city an walked over 20 k's so that night none of us lasted too long before we crashed out...
Vincent left the next morning and after a huge sleep in Renee and I set off into the city again with plans of a sunset picnic, lots more gelato and a chilled out night. The sunset couldn't have been better, we layed on the grass on top of the hill we found the day before with some wine, pizza, Italian cheese and crackers - ate until we felt sick and took a thousand pictures of the stunning sunset and ever changing city as the sky put on a light show - it was so beautiful.. On the walk home we heard music and found a band playing in the park, we settled in for the next few hours listening to the acoustic music next to the river alongside 100 others laying around us on the grass, then we headed home to bed...
LUCCA...
Renee was off on a Tuscany tour the next day and i decided to do my own - I booked my train tickets first to Lucca, then Pisa in Tuscany and my huge day began.. Lucca was a cute country town on a hill, surrounded by a massive wall that circled the entire place. I walked along the wall and on one side had a view of the beautiful old town, the otherside was green paddocks and mountains that went on forever - it was so relaxing and i laid in the field for a while surrounded by tiny flowers smiling to myself.. The town wasn't very big but it was very beautiful, multi coloured buildings, horse an carts everywhere, vines growing over restaurants and the sound of Italian's chatting away loudly on every corner. I found the centre which was a huge circle of buildings and in the middle a circle of restaurants, i ate a whole pizza (almost) and waved goodbye to 'Lucca' because i had to see Pisa before the sun set!
PISA...
There was not alot to see in Pisa, one huge main street full of up market shopping stores and restaurants that seemed to go on forever and right at the end was the famous leaning tower. It was the strangest thing to see! It was in the middle of a lush green field Just out side a busy main street and it was there next to 2 other matching beautiful buildings. All 3 were obviously built together but the tower got stuffed up and now it falls a few centimetres every year...it'll soon be gone because the lean it was on was huge - i couldn't believe they were letting loads of tourists up the top of it, surely that could be dangerous if it fell! I took a few snaps and selfies in between the thousand other people doing the same thing then quickly found my way back to the station for the long ride home.
I'd done it! Tuscany in a day :)
The next morning i checked out a day early to go to Cinque Terre - The colourful houses built on cliffs....
