An our next adventure begins!!!......
Day 1.....
Landed in Athens an caught a cab to the beautiful 'president hotel' in the city. It was packed full of Greeks in traditional dress preparing for a night of Greek dancing an other stuff which they apparently do sometimes??? There were hundreds of them outside an in the hotel you could barley move! The costumes were amazing! So much time was put into all of them you could tell, they all had perfect hair an makeup an each outfit was different, colors everywhere! We only wanted sleep anyway since we hadn't had any yet so to bed it was!
Day 2.....
The next day we explored Athens - old ruins, the flea market an the Plaka area famous for its greek cuisine, we saw the changing of the guards parade at Parliment where hundreds of soldiers marched around holding guns an wearing skirts, each skirt had 400 pleats in it representing 400 years of something political? Then we spent the arvo laying around by the beautiful rooftop pool sipping beers in the sun aaahhhhhhhh it was so relaxing :)
We met that night with Our contiki group and after many introductions headed back to Plaka for a night of Greek food an dancing an a chance to get to meet the people we'd be spending the next 4 days on the cruise with. Everyone was so much fun an so nice an we quickly got our fun group together! There was 2 aussie best mates, Shane an Alex. Then 2 kiwis, Graham an busta. MJ our tour guide. Brandon an Josh, 2 other Aussies an that because our crew, everyone else did their own thing sortof, we were the party bunch - an thats what we did.... We partied!
Day 3.....
We boarded the ship early morning, settled into our rooms an all met up again, the boat had a deal for all you could drink the whole time on the cruise for $90 euros so everyone jumped on that! We knew we'd drink that in a night!
So 11am we found an claimed our bar on the boat, from the 10 levels it was on deck 5 at the very back, an outside bar with a spa an pingpong table an the 30 of us took it over... We cruised through the deep blue waters watching Athens disappear in the background until we could only see water all around us, then Mykonos appeared! We were all smashed by this point, definitely taking full advantage of our all-u-can-drink package and full of excitement about the cruise! We piled off the boat into the most amazing town of Mykonos, the streets were tiny an so windy, like squiggles that ran in between pure white houses an brightly colored doors, it was a maze, one wrong turn an you were on your own trying to navigate your way back. Honestly the coolest place iv ever seen! We made our way to a little bar/ club an danced away the rest of the night together. .....
Once back on the boat (somehow, noone remembers) we went to the 'disco tec' an kept on goin through until 3 the next morning... A solid 16hour session!
Day 4.....
Only a few hours sleep an we were up an off again in the little town of Kusadasi. The group went off on a tour of Ephesus an the house of the virgin Mary but Carm an I decided to save our cash an explore on our own, we hired a taxi to show us around an started the long climb up the mountain to the final resting place of Virgin Mary. The mountain was littered with ruins and when we reached the top the view was beautiful... First up we saw a huge hole in the ground built from stone an clearly so so old, it apparently was used as a baptism pool for Christians because back in the old days people were baptized in large groups. Further on we came to the house of the virgin Mary, it was a small dome shack with a large gold statue inside and candles everywhere, pretty amazing to think this was where she laid once... Around the corner we saw a massive wall about 20 mtrs long covered with notes and prayers all strung together, beautiful!
On the way home we stopped at the roman baths then headed into town for some shopping, things got creepy ... Pretty sure Carm an I were the only 2 girls in the whole town an as soon as we started to walk down the streets that were lined with shops all the men came out! Every single one had to comment on how beautiful we were, they all wanted us to look in their shops an offered us great deals, one guy even said 'anything u want in my shop is free for u'. The pickup lines were crazy! They all asked where we were from, one guy asked 'can i be your kangaroo?' haahahaha pick up line if the century!!! Then there was 'did u come from another planet?' an 'you dropped something...., my heart' hahaha so cheesy!
We linked arms so tight an walked so fast outta there back to the boat!
By the afternoon we had got to the next island of Patmos, we all did a tour together this time and caught a bus right to the top of a huge mountain to see the monastery of St John. This was so amazing! This was the place where John wrote the book of Revelation in the bible. There was an amazing old building with artifacts and carvings, even a dungeon! Then down the hill was St Johns cave, we saw the 3 cracks in the roof which God spoke to him through, it was amazing!!!! This was his final resting place too.
To be there where a part of the bible was written made it come to life!!
We walked all the way down the mountain eating figs, cactus fruit an other wild fruit off random trees then all met at a seafood restaurant down the bottom. We all ate fresh seafood and drank ouzo, the traditional drink in Greece. ..
That night we partied again, things got a bit crazy, we were having races down the hallways on the maid carts, piling tissues up over people's doors, putting trolleys in front of doors so they couldn't get out an drawing on everyone's faces while they were asleep with Vegemite :) good times! Eventually the staff told us off for being too loud an so we had to go to bed....
Day 5....
We decided to do a prank night on everyone so we stocked up with foil, cling wrap, glue, pepper an sticky tape... First part of the night we had a yummy formal dinner together in the classy restaurant, everyone got in their suits an dresses an ordered half the menu each almost, but all the food was included so why not try it all! Carm an I had 3 entres, 3 mains an 4 deserts haha so much food!!!!!!
Then it was time to dance! We headed up to the disco an it all started again..... The plan was to somehow sneak people's room cards an sabotage them an one by one we did!!!!!!
First up was the kiwis room, then MJ's, Jo's and Alex an Shane's ..
We glad wrapped their beds, taped thongs, undies, cups, anything we could find to the walls, roof an mirrors, we taped all their doors shut an tied couches together. In shane an Alex's room we went a bit further an put absolutely everything in their bathroom - bags, lifejackets, doonas, pillows, draws, clothes, even the tv! So funny!
The boys started to notice we kept disappearing an clued on that we were up to something.. When we were in MJ's room he came an banged on the door, carm just hid under the bed! Hahaha like he couldn't find us - in his room - on a boat! Everyone thought it was hilarious though an after much more dancing we followed Shane an Alex down to their room to see their reaction.. We were only in the room for a few minutes when there was a bang on the door, we all - stupidly - hid under the beds again haahahaha
Then security opened the door an wow did this guy go crazy!!!! He was like a 50 yr old American guy an he stood in the hallway swearing an yelling for a good half hour! Never seen someone get so mad over a bit of noise. Fair enough we woke up a few ppl but he way over reacted!! He was yelling about us keeping everyone up for the last few nights an said we were all rich snobby kids who were only on this cruise because our daddy's paid for it an that the night before he saw all of us in the toilets doing cocaine an bla bla bla just bulls*** bulls*** bulls***! We were all so mad! None of us were doing drugs! Only drinking and we had all worked our buts off to pay for this trip, we didn't get a hand out from our rich parents gggrrrrrrrrr it made us all so mad that we were being accused of all this crap an then to top it off he had his iPad out the whole time filming everything!! He demanded the captin come down - an he did. Then MJ came an about 6 other guards plus neighbors because he was standing in the hallway at 3 in the morning screaming his lungs out - we were not even talking an he's saying we were waking everyone up! So there ended up being about 10 or more people in the room excluding us 4 - the caption, guards, MJ, neighbors, everyone! They eventually left with the threat that if it happened again we would all be left at santorini, our last stop, an be met by the cops!! Wwwhhhhoooooohhhhhhooooo crazy!
Carm an I slept with 2 guards camped outside our door that night, I tried to leave the room a few time an was ordered back in - we were literally prisoners on our holiday! An all because this guy went off his nut at us. ..... So that was fun....
The next morning we got off the boat at santorini which was a big relief knowing we wouldn't have to see anyone on the boat from the night before. The group went on a paid tour but carm an I just did our own thing, first we paid 5 euro each an road donkeys up the cliff to the town - so cool! It's a huge cliff an took ages to get up there on donkeys but was worth every cent - then we explored the little winding streets, cobblestone pathways and blue an white buildings that covered the cliffside, it was amazing! After a few hours we went to 'tropical bar' which is right on the side of the cliff looking out to the water, the sunset was breath taking! So many colors painted across the sky with a massive orange glowing ball slowing falling into darkness behind the horizon dragging all the color down behind it....
We took our time and walked down the same donkey path we came up on for the next hour admiring the view, I had a fall an scraped an bruised all up my leg an bum, it was so steep an uneven but defiantly worth every bruise!
The first early night of the trip and we woke to a massive day of travel back to the UK... After our goodbyes in Athens we flew to Heathrow in London an caught a bus to Bath to meet our newly found relatives.
