As we left the quiet little town of Hoi An and headed for Ho Chi Minh city we weren't really sure what to expect but we knew we were in for a crazy time. We decided to go by train of course. It saves us money on paying for a hotel for a night because we just sleep on the train over night. Although you never really know what the quality of the train may be. Sometimes it's pretty clean and decent and others the sheets haven't been changed and it's dirty but it's overall a pretty cheap and effective way to travel. So we were on the train from 130pm to 6am the next day as we arrived into the craziness...and hit with a wall of heat! Wow.
As soon as we got settled into our hostel we started roaming around the city. Nothing like seeing prostitutes going home with some stupid foreigners at 6am ! Haha. That's pretty common there we've seen quite a few.
So after our breakfast of course getting asked only about 20x while we ate for 20 minutes if we wanted to buy sunglasses or lighters or some other random junk. It's hard to get away from that around here and no exaggeration it's every minute or less that someone bugs us ! But that's part of the experience I guess.
In the 20th century, Vietnam has significant war history and we decided to continue learning more about the events in history so we walked to the war museum. It was quite sad seeing all the photos of people killed and effected by the wars. However its also kind of funny how one sided the story is. Pictures will have captions beside it stating not always truthful statements such as this little baby was shot by an American soldier, this woman and all her 5 children were killed by an American. They don't state anything about the Americans killed or anything. We found the same thing to be true in all the museums we've been to here.
Ooh the heat. Its so hot here about 32 before humidity. So we were sweating buckets just walking down the street not complaining though haha.
We've definitely noticed its more laid back and easy going compared to the north as well as not as compact. However tons of motor bikes. They say there are 86 million people in Vietnam so that means there is about 90million motor bikes ! But it's fun !! We couldn't get ourselves to rent a bike though it's too nuts and we want to live to experience the rest of our trip haha
Later that night we ventured out to check out the night life. Ended up getting a few drinks as we couldn't resist. It was $2 for a small bucket of whatever mixed drink you want and boy oh boy it's strong too. We ended up meeting more Aussies and spent the night having some drinks and dancing. It was great fun. But the next day wasnt. As being hungover in 35 degree heat sucks. Especially when we had up checkout of our hostel by noon do no place to rest. So we went to the zoo. Maybe for the shade but also to see sons cool animals. It was pretty cool seeing the elephants but were looking forward to actually working with them in Thailand !
So as you can imagine sweating of course again we ended up paying $4 to rent a room for a few hours to shower and nap. We needed to! Especially considering we were going to be on an overnight bus to Phu Quoc island at 11pm that night.
We plan to do lots of relaxing and sitting by the beautiful beaches. Talk soon
