After a very nice and pleasent free breakfast, we organized our day- sorta did at least. We got a map of Hanoi, detailed enough to get around. We got rid of our little backpack in Nanning so our first mission was to find a new one ( and on the cheap side). To our little hearts content Hanoi has a lot of knock offs around ! Weoooo!
We found a shop that was selling The North Face back packs at really cheap cost: $10 got us a backpack that would go for $70 in Canada. We were also looking for a lonely planet book that cost around $35 in Canada and was a whopping $50 in Honk Kong. ! Weoooo # 2 for us ! Hanoi also has a lot of those books, knock offs that are photo copied very good: like almost perfect. We payed $10 for it.
We walked around Hanoi and seen a lot of the sights in the city. Not a plentiful amount of sights to see in the city but enough for a few days in Hanoi.
We still love having diner, drinks and desert for two, under $8 ( Canada that's a small appetizer.
Getting to understand and to convert the money was weird at first: $1 Cnd = $20,600 Viet dongs ( so to be a millionaire here is nothing).
We are staying the old quarter of Hanoi, lots of shops and food, hostel and hotels in a cramped area with tens of thousands of bikes.
As being said we got lost finding our way to our hostel: found it after a good 35 min detour.
Packed our stuff and headed for a night train to Sapa.
Had two nice females join us on our train: one American and one Canuck who are living in Tokyo and they are on a vacay in Vietnam.
Had some good conversation and learned some inside stories of living in Tokyo.
Arrived in a city an hour away from Sapa and took a bus ride up the mountains to reach our destination.
A small and very beautiful town, a very different feel then Hanoi.
Had breakfast out side and what an amazing view; the clouds were under neath us and as the sun hit, the cloud rises and we can literally say we ate breakfast in the clouds.
We await our guide as we trek the mountain side for two days!
Until next time!
Cheers
