Two Girls... One World
Sooo... what happened to the weather?! We're currently on Magnetic Island off the Queensland coast. It's beautiful... but drizzly... boo hoo...
The first day here we went kayaking, which was fun. We got thrown from our kayak by a big wave we were catching... very funny! Not as funny as trying to get out into the unbroken water again after being washed up on the beach though! But we made it back in one piece only slightly bruised so all is well!
This morning (Weds) we went for a bush walk up to a really high point of the island. The area we were walking on was widely used as a defense base during WW2 and the gun placements and lookout points still remain. Luckily, Oz was never actually invaded, but the Japanese did bomb the nearby town of Townsville, which we visited yesterday afternoon before getting the ferry over here. Anyway... during our bush walk we saw koalas in the wild - wooooooo! Well only one actually, but stil... woooooooo!
This avo (yeh... aussie speak) we dumdumdum... HIRED A CAR! We did it with a girl in our dorm, Charlotte and headed out to a Koala Park where we got to cuddle a koala (and other beasties like a python!) We got photos as well... will put them on here when we get to a net cafe with USB ports!) Anyway... more exciting than merely hiring a car... the car happens to be a convertible mini-jeep... Wow you say? Wow? Well... wow-this... IT'S PINK!!!! We called her Pinky and also a ruder name pertaining to her toplessness!
Anyway... oooh... our hostel here is nice. We're in a girls room called "Sanctuary". It's pretty cramped but we have duvets (a luxury for travellers) and lockers so its nice and safe. Our hostel is more like a resort - it's really spread out and there's a restaurant, bar, dive school, pool and huge decking area with steps down onto the sand. There's also kayaks and bike for hire and a big kitchen to cook our cheesey pasta in and make our brews whenever we need!
Anyway... off to Airlie Beach on Friday and will update from there!
Keep writing on the message board - good to hear what you're all up to as well :-)
Mucho Love, C ya soonish
