Two Girls... One World
Last time we updated the journal we were on our way to the surf camp, which was at Crescent Head. We had two days of surf lessons and spent a night at the camp.
We got there late afternoon and got our wetsuits then headed to the beach, which was stunning and we were the only people on it! We spent about half an hour going through stuff on the beach and warming up, and then hit the surf. There was a really strong rip tide so it was hard work getting out, but good fun. The next morning we were surfing by 8am and there was a bit less of a rip tide so it was a bit easier. The people at surf camp were great too and made it really good fun :-)
From surf camp we made our way to Barrington Tops, which is inland. Our accommodation there was really nice - it was in a big old house on the side of a hill overlooking all the open spaces around and the river at the bottom of the hill. We had our dinner in their "bar" down by the river n then spent our evening in the hot tub drinking wine out of mugs (classy... but no glass allowed around the hot tub!) Lots of people went night kayaking so we had a few hours when we had the hot tub to ourselves. The nearest neighbours to the camp were about 25 miles away so there were no lights around and the stars were beautiful - we could see the milky way and the southern cross really clearly, and saw loads of shooting stars (Fleur saw her first one ever:-)) So we made lots of wishes on the stars!
After Barrington Tops we headed for Sydney, crossing the Harbour Bridge on the way in. We were picked up by Fleur's cousin Hannah and her boyfriend Chris and they dropped us at our hostel in Coogee (near Bondi Beach) Later we went to their apartment for dinner and wine... too much wine to be precise... and cocktails... then we headed out to Aquarium, a bar complex in Coogee. We had a great night out (our first for ages... we're really boring!) and Fleur and Hannah enjoyed catching up :-)
The next morning we went to Bondi Beach to meet Karen's friend Jo, who lives here now. We had brunch then sat on the beach for a while watching surfers and enjoying the sunshine. Then we went around Bondi market and just strolled around the area. Jo seems really happy there and you can see why - it's such a nice area and really chilled out. We did feel a bit frumpy there though - everyone looks like they've just stepped off the catwalk... it's a "see and be seen" place apparently!
Yesterday we had a really lazy day, getting up after midday and then just chilling out. And there we were minding our own business sat in a safe by Coogee beach and the whole Aussie rugby team walked past, all kitted up! It was really random and apart from kids asking for autographs and people saying hi to them they weren't harrassed at all... quite refreshing seeing as they're the equivalent of the English footy team strolling on past and we can't imagine Becks and co doing that without being mobbed! Think sport is taken more seriously out here but for what it is - sport and not celebrity... and quite possibly that is how the athletes view it as well, so they don't believe any hype that's created.
Today we're leaving Coogee and heading for Fleur's Aunt and Uncle's for a few days.
We're almost half way through now - it's flying by!
Hope everyone is well back home! See you soon!
Love Fleur and Karen xxx xxx
