It was nice to get off the plane in Singapore and not have to hang around in the transit lounge dreading another long flight. We got a taxi to our hostel which had the essentials...air conditioning, a friendly receptionist and a very tidy room mate. The change in temperature was dramatic from the end of the New Zealand summer. Even walking was bringing out a very sweaty Greg, some acclimatisation was needed.
The next day we set out to 'do' Singapore and managed to explore what felt like the whole of Singapore in one day. It's strange how segregated the areas are....little India, Arab area, China town etc. these areas are not only labelled, but also colour coded on all city maps. We couldn't help thinking that in the UK those names would be seen as racist. We started our day in little India, then strolled to Clarke's Quay, diving in and out of the air conditioned malls as we went to dry off. We wandered around all the super modern quay areas and gardens and enjoyed an afternoon cocktail in the giant posh hotel with a boat on top where we returned that evening for a pre dinner Singapore Sling on the 57th floor. They were so good we had a couple as we watched the sun set over Singapore. Once dark we had an excellent view of the light show that takes place on the river below. Keen to fit in all aspects of Singapore we then headed to China town for dinner. A buzzing place with lots of atmosphere and plenty of foods on offer. We opted for the incredibly spicey frog stew, which not only included legs but also spines. It was a delicious introduction to South East Asian cuisine.
Up early the next day we headed to the airport for our Air Asia flight to Bangkok, where the tour group awaited.
