Day two in Amsterdam and we are having fun. We were both awake around 5.00am so got out the computer and read the wonderful comments that everyone has entered on this site. Thank you all so very much. Went down stairs for breakfast and then ventured out into the cold, windy and wet summer day. Avoided the bikes, as much as we could, and went for a walk into the beautiful Vondel Park. Everything is so green and so peaceful amongst the ponds, flowers and the ducks, however, we then had the issue of the Runners and Joggers. What is wrong with these Dutch people - don't they ever just relax and walk! Wandered back through the back streets where my magical sense of direction took us straight back to the hotel. After a rest we ventured out again this time with an umbrella and went to the most unusual pancake place, which was decorated just like an old fashioned Carousel. Had the most delicious apple and cinnamon pancakes. Caught the Hop On and Off bus and then drove all around Amsterdam checking out all the tourist spots like the Van Gogh Museum (lineup was incredible - guess that is off my list) the Royal Palace, Heineken Experience, the Diamond Museum, Rijksmuseum and of course the Red Light District. hahaha I thought the bare legs in the window belonged to a manequin but then they moved and I realised that they belonged to a very scantily dressed woman who had a partner - Mum was looking the other way and is quite disappointed that she missed out. hahahaha Went back to our favourite square for lunch and decided on Chinese. Very strange place - firstly they do not have hokien noodles so we had to explain that they looked like spagetti - Aha said the Jamacian owner, they are Soba Noodles and talked us into the beef and noodle dish which was cooked by an Indian and served by a Polish girl. The Jamacian had us laughing so much and Mum decided to sing Ernie Dingo's song to him - 'All I ever want to be is to be an Aborigine!' Bought some biscuits at a road side van but decided not to buy the herion and cannibis lollypops. Another wonderful day in Amsterdam.
