Ok well hello everybody and welcome back to the blog, apologies it has been a while but not had much time to write something so I am now going to try and remember everything we have done since the last time.
Lets start with the mamoth drive. OK so driving from Airlie Beach to Bundaberg was slightly longer than we all thought. It took us in total around 13 hours and by the time of it we were all ready for a few cheeky beers. Heading into Bundaberg we were expecting a mass of bars seeing it is the home of Bundaberg Rum, unfortunatly we were slightly dissapointed to find the first bar we entered was full of yocals who gave us the death stare! needless to say we downed our beers and looked for somewhere a little better. We did eventually find somewhere a little cooler who had the best live band in there.
We uped and left Bundaberg the next morning heading for our next destination that was Hervey Bay, this is basically where people come to go to Fraser Island so as you can imagine (or maybe not) it wasn't the busiest of places for a night out. An earl night (first one in a while) ensued ready for our early morning start for Fraser.
The next morning we awoke early (5.45 not the best time for a traveller) to get going for Faser, after the safety talks we headed off to pack the vehicles. Packed and ready the 9 of us in our group (Me and Brainer, the 3 Manchester Girls, 2 Italians and 2 Sweedes, just for those who were interested) headed off to Fraser Island.
Fraser Island for those who don't know is the worlds biggest Sand Island and basically you drive 4x4's along the beach and off road, it was amazing. The First day we took it easy and got used to the Driving conditions, we did though check out a few little lakes etc and had a laugh on the beach. Unfortunatly the weather that night wasn't the best and so it's never fun sleeping in a wet tent, with this in mind I slept in the van in the comfort and dryness.
The scond day consisted of driving to the north of the island to check out some amazing rock pools and the west of the island. Unfortunatly the weather wasn't the best in the morning but the views were still amazing and it did brighten up in time for us to camp again! Second camp was far better and we had a good night.
The third and last day again was amazing, we drove around some great scenic off road tracks and headed for Lake wabby, a massive lake with a massive sand bank going into it, we had a good laugh there but due to the time we had to get back and s missed out on some other great sites. All in all though Fraser Island was an amazing 3 days.
Leaving Hervey Bay we headed down to Noosa for R&R. Noosa to sum up was awesome, such a beautiful place, to be fair we didn't do a lot here just chilled on the beach and in the sea and drank copious amounts of alcohol. But we had a great time and met some cool people, mainly Pierre our french friend. He is the most laid back person you could ever meet but we h ad some good times with him.
Ok so we are now in Byron Bay, we are going to head back to Surfers in a weeks then maybe Noosa again before meeting Ange in Brisbane. For those of you who have been to Byron you'll know how cool this place is, been here 2 days but love it. Staying in a place called the Arts Factory, very hippyish but very cool, will tell more in the next blog though.
Hope you are all well and look forward to your comments on the message board.
Love Ash and Chris x
